The challenges have been settled, the victors have been decided and the next generation of engineers await their rewards. The winning schools have been announced the for 16th annual Goodyear STEM Career Day event.
More than 1,500 students in grades six through 12 competed in challenges like creating Rube Goldberg machines in an effort to fill a Goodyear blimp. This challenge alone offered up to $4,000 dollars to the high school group who could produce the most innovative concept.

In an effort to encourage STEM principles, students wandered the campus of Akron University interacting with representatives from over 50 local organizations hosting a variety of STEM based activities.
The STEM Career Day event held April 18 was hosted by over 300 Goodyear volunteers.
"It is important that we encourage our young people to pursue careers in science and technology,” said Chief Technical Officer Joe Zekoski. "Looking at the creativity demonstrated by so many of the students, I am confident they have bright careers ahead of them."
The following high schools won grants via the Rube Goldberg Machine Challenge:
· First place, receiving $4,000 dollars, Black River High School, Sullivan, OH.
· Second place, receiving $3,000 dollars, Buckeye High School, Medina, OH.
· Third place, receiving $1,500 dollars, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School, Broadview Heights, OH.
The following middle schools won grants via the Rube Goldberg Machine Challenge:
· First place, receiving $1,000 dollars, was Catalyst Homeschool Academy, Macedonia, OH.
· Second place, receiving $1,000 dollars, was Brecksville Broadview Heights Middle School, Broadview Heights, OH.
· Third place, receiving $500 dollars, was Edison Middle School, Massillon, OH.
The following students were recipients of Goodyear scholarships to the university of their choice:
· Nathan Peterman of Revere High School, Richfield, OH,
· Sean Umstot of Waterloo High School, Atwater, OH,
· Lisa Twarog of North Royalton High School, North Royalton, OH,
· Zack Li of Copley High School, Copley, OH, and
· Alexander Karwowski of Highland High School, Medina, OH.
The following students accepted Goodyear/University of Akron scholarships:
· Brian Auffenberg of Wadsworth High School, Wadsworth, OH,
· Deanna Chapa of Hoover High School, North Canton, OH,
· Alex Willey of Heath High School, Heath, OH,
· Alexander Vetrick of Buckeye High School, Medina, OH and
· Monica Feltman of Revere High School, Richfield, OH.
The recipient of the Goodyear/Case Western Reserve University scholarship was Benjamin Robinson of Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
The recipients of the Goodyear/Cleveland State University scholarships are Louise Beckstrom of Aurora High School, Aurora, OH and Charles Cilensek of Mentor High School, Mentor, OH.
Miranda Hughes of Southeast High School, Ravenna, OH and Chancelor Sunkle of Washington High School, Massillon, OH received Goodyear Women's Initiatives in Leadership/University of Akron scholarships.
