EOS and GF Team Up to Combine Additive Manufacturing Technology and Moldmaking

EOS, a manufacturer of high-end industrial 3D printers and GF Machining Solutions, a subsidiary of Switzerland-based industrial company Georg Fischer (GF), are teaming up to creating some innovative products and services for their customers’ 3D printing needs.

GF Machining Solutions specializes in machine tools, automation solutions and customer services in mold, die and high value-added metal part production. EOS has pioneered the use of direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) and provides an interesting polymer AM portfolio.

Beyond building industrial 3D printers, EOS also offers a range of modular solutions including software, systems, materials and technical and consulting services. EOS provides the products and services of choice within the AM industry.

“We welcome very much this strategic partnership. GF and EOS complement each other very well to offer the large customer base of GF Machining Solutions a unique set of technologies,” said Yves Serra, GF CEO.

The two companies will build upon GF’s advanced EDM, high-speed milling and automation technologies, focusing on the mold and die sector through their offering of specialized mold maker products.

The two companies will offer technologies for mold making, including the ability to create metal cooling inserts near the surface of the mold to reduce the mold-cooling sequence and create a quicker plastic injection cycle. The main takeaway of the partnership is that clients will now have access to additive manufacturing technology integrated with a mold-insert production process while also integrating necessary software, automation links, measuring devices, and downstream machine-tools.
