BIMobject and Vectorworks Join Hands

Vectorworks, a design software for CAD and BIM with a loyal following that often takes a backseat to Autodesk, has announced a new partnership with BIMobject.

BIMobject uses a cloud-based portal to catalog BIM Objects, pieces of data that define a product's physical and geometric traits. BIMobject's catalog contains BIM objects of real products that can be downloaded in various formats and is used by manufacturers to integrate real products directly into BIM processes.

On Sept. 1, 2015, Nemetschek Vectorworks and BIMobject announced that both parties have signed a cooperation agreement (see press release). The two companies will work together to support each other's BIM technology, in order to better fill the needs of the AEC (architecture, engineering, and construction) industry.

BIMobject's portal will now support Vectorworks' file formats and BIMobject's user base will grow to include the more than half a million people worldwide who use Vectorworks. This new user base will include architects, students, urban planners and designers of all sorts. Vectorworks users will now have access to up-to-date BIM content, answering the wishes of many designers who expressed demand for BIMobject's Cloud portfolio content.

BIMobject and Nemetschek Vectorworks will also work together to make an initial set of manufacturer's objects, including existing BIMobject content. These will be available via Nemetschek Vectorworks' multivendor private Cloud, with the support of BIMobject Cloud solutions.

Both companies also intend to help manufacturers develop BIM objects for Vectorworks users.
