Geometric Debuts CAMWorks 2016

Geometric has announced the launch of its 3D CNC machining software CAMWorks 2016. Unlike many other CAM programs, CAMWorks operates inside SOLIDWORKS as a CAM extension and is fully associative with the SOLIDWORKS geometry.

Improved Feature Recognition and Milling Techniques

In its 2016 release, CAMWorks’ engineers have been keen to focus on enhancing their software’s feature recognition capabilities, allowing users to select non-planar faces and edges to define toolpaths. In addition to user-driven feature recognition, CAMWorks 2016 includes upgrades to its automatic feature recognition features which give users the ability to select similar features using variables like depth.

In addition to upgrades in its feature recognition system, CAMWorks 2016 also includes new machining strategies including the ability to pre-drill holes automatically for high speed machining and a new “gun-drill” cycle that supports deep hole machining.

Tool Tree Added to User Interface

While machining features are usually the crux of any CAM software update, CAMWorks has also made a point to improve the UI of its 2016 version. In CAMWorks 2016, users now have access to a tool tree tab that simplifies the process of creating and managing tools. Users will have direct access to their tools and be able to edit them, delete them or even create new tools specific to a part’s milling strategy.

Finally, CAMWorks has also improved its ability to create setup sheets. Now anyone on the shop floor will be able to view CAMWorks setup sheets that include multiple part and assembly images as well as tool images. These type of drawings can dramatically reduce setup times and tooling errors.

Embedding yourself within a single CAD software might seem like a market limiting strategy. However, CAMWorks has used its single vendor model to create a program that focuses on turning pre-designed geometry into CNC output quickly and easily.

By using an interface that’s already familiar to users and piggybacking on efficient workflows previously defined by Dassault engineers, CAMWorks has built a product that can compete with any CAM software on the market.
