IEEE’s Networking Event for STEM Students and Young Professionals

The second IEEE Rising Stars Conference is coming up in January of 2016.  This event is an ideal place for engineering students and young professionals to network with their peers and industry leaders.

An important part of the conference is the career fair, which may be the biggest draw for many attendees.

Since the conference is geared toward students and young professionals, the career fair is unlikely to pitch “entry level” jobs that call for “five to ten years of experience.”

Additionally the Rising Stars Conference will offer:

  • Technical innovation and professional development presentations
  • An idea-pitching workshop
  • Various competitions

The event also features a pitch-your-idea student video competition that will award $1,500 in prize money.

This year the video pitch contest focuses on communication and asks students to create a video that explains their project or research in a way that could draw attention and funding.  Cash prizes will be awarded for the best video and the people’s choice video.

Finally, representatives from top companies in a variety of industries are scheduled to speak. Some big names include:

  • Virgin Galactic vice president, William Pomerantz
  • Lockheed Martin vice president of narrowband communication, Iris Fujiura
  • Synopsis senior director of corporate programs and initiatives, Karen Bartleson
  • Dolby Laboratories executive director of technology strategy, Patrick Griffis
  • Tufts University director of the Simulation Research Laboratory, Dr. Karen Panetta

The event takes place at the Excalibur in Las Vegas from January 2 to 4th, 2016.
