ESI Group Officially Joins the Simulation HPC Cloud Trend

ESI Group has just cashed in on its previous Ciespace acquisition by officially bringing its Virtual Performance solution onto its new cloud platform.

Users will also have access to an end-to-end CFD solution based on the open-sourced OpenFOAM solver. This should come as no surprise as Ciespace’s flagship platform was a very similar product.

The ESI Cloud itself is being marketed as a secure, reliable and scalable software as a service platform. The cloud will not only allow analysts and engineers to compute their simulations online, but it will also let them access ESI software in the browser.

This allows users to build and model geometry, pre/post process and run their simulations over a web browser on demand. Engineers and advanced users can import 3rd party and open-sourced geometry, meshing, solvers and visualization engines.

The service is currently limited to the Virtual Performance solution and the OpenFOAM CFD solution. The remainder of ESI’s large fit-for-purpose simulation portfolio will likely take some time before it is all available.

The ESI Cloud will also be able to run workflows in parallel, create templates and teach users by offering sample projects. The cloud product aims to increase real-time collaboration between members of the engineering team.

The ESI Cloud is powered by the Amazon Web Service, allowing for scalable high-performance computing (over 32 cores), multi-tenant architecture and an open application framework. Some of the collaboration tools offered by the new cloud service include ability to:

  • Work on data, workflows and projects asynchronously
  • Have multi-user collaboration in a browser for CAD, geometry, mesh and results
  • Create real-time notes, annotations, image archiving and retrieval
  • Share and email projects and workflows to teammates and non-ESI Cloud users
  • Share results without data transfer
