New Digital Signal Force Torque Sensor for Universal Robots

Robotiq’s new FT 300 Force Torque Sensor will succeed the company’s FT 150 predecessor for precision part insertion, product testing and assembly and fabrication.

The new sensor is specifically designed for Universal Robots (UR) and offers an easy “plug-and-play” setup. Users can simply plug the device into the USB port of the UR controller.

The sensor fits directly on a UR wrist thanks to an embedded coupling and matching UR bolt pattern.

The FT 300 sensors are also offered with an ROS stack and with software packages for Linux and Windows to help speed along application development.

The FT 300 uses a digital signal, protecting the device from noise interference. This will allow for accurate measurements of force applied on the process or part, without the need for an external signal processing box.

The new sensor is smaller than the FT 150, measuring 75mm in diameter, versus the 120mm size of the previous model. Despite this, the device’s maximum force and torque is doubled to a maximum of +/-300N and +/-30N.m in each axis.

Robotiq still plans to produce the FT 150 and will continue to offer the UR kit with the 2-Finger and 3-Finger Grippers, but only for a limited time.

The TF 300 is now officially available through Robotiq’s global partners, who can integrate and train their local customers to program the FT 300 on their own Universal Robots using the plug-and-play kit.
