The Leica Absolute Scanner LAS-20-8 is a new portable laser scanner suitable for large-volume inspection applications.

The scanner is designed for manual freeform inspections of a variety of surface types, including shiny metallic and dark materials. It is effective in measurement volumes of up to 60m (196.9’) and it carries an IP50 rating, so it’s resistant to dust.

The scanner automatically identifies itself when combined with the Leica Absolute Tracker AT960 coordinate measuring machine, enabling fast changes between scanning, probing and reflector measurement tasks.

A built-in guidelight leads operators to the optimum measurement position, while haptic, acoustic and visual feedback help improve accuracy. The laser’s intensity automatically adjusts to different surface types and operators can switch between pre-set measurement profiles without any software adjustments.

“With the Leica Absolute Scanner LAS-20-8, we wanted to create an affordable handheld laser scanner that delivers results every time without complex setups or training needs,” said Duncan Redgewell, VP of Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence Portable Products.
