New Micro-Probe Feature Reduces Measurement Uncertainty

Feather Probe is a micro-metrology sensor designed for measuring small, fragile or easily-deformed features.

Using resonance as its trigger mode, the probe supports tips as small as 100 µm in diameter and exhibits trigger forces below 1 mg.

The newest feature of Feather Probe is its Dynamic Resonance Mode, in which the controller constantly monitors probe resonance to detect uncertainty-inducing environmental effects. These include temperature, air motion and vibration.

The effects of these forces are especially disruptive for miniscule probes, adversely affecting measurement accuracy.

However, with this new feature the controller can dynamically adjust Feather Probe’s resonance when resonance-altering effects like temperature or vibration are detected, thereby eliminating external influences.

Feather Probe is manufactured by Optical Gaging Products (OGP), a division of Quality Vision International (QVI). It is compatible with QVI ZONE3, MeasureMind 3D MultiSensor and VMS metrology software platforms.
