Celebrate Women in STEM on International Women’s Day

Women studying and working in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) have made great strides in closing the gender gap and have made meaningful contributions to their fields.

On International Women’s Day 2016, celebrate the women you know in engineering and other STEM fields.

According to this infographic from the New Jersey Institute of Technology, though women make up half of the US population and 47 percent of the workforce, only 24 percent of women work in STEM fields. Out of this number, 12 percent work as civil engineers, and 8.3 percent are electrical or electronics engineers.

Women in STEM face challenges in academia, receiving lower rates of scholarly recognition and hiring prejudices can be common in already gender imbalanced STEM workplaces.
