The first major improvement to WorkNC is, we shall say, tactical. In its 2016 edition, WorkNC features Waveform, a series of new cutting strategies that can lead to more efficient milling and longer tool life. The underpinnings of Waveform’s efficiency are based upon the software’s ability to rough stock using a new algorithm that maintains a constant load on the cutter. With this new strategy, intermittent cutting movements are reduced, meaning that every tool in a CNC program is engaged in cutting for the maximum period along a toolpath. The strategy also reduces the number of cutter retractions, lowering the time it takes to complete a milling program.
The most consequential improvement to WorkNC is that the program’s Auto 5 technology has been added to the software’s standard module. Now, all users, regardless of the version they have, will have access to a sophisticated set of tools that can generate 5-axis toolpaths based on existing 3-axis milling programs. By initiating the Auto 5 feature, users can quickly convert 3-axis, and 3+2-axis toolpaths into 5-axis machining programs that are checked for collision avoidance and optimized for efficient tool motion. For users that are only beginning to work with 5-axis machines, algorithms like Auto 5 can be an invaluable asset, ensuring that inefficient programs and collision disasters are eliminated.
Finally, Vero has also improved its UI by bringing toolpath commands into a window so that users can quickly select milling strategies.
