Elysium Updates Its JT Solutions

Interoperability powerhouse Elysium has announced a number of enhancements for its JT-based solutions—an array of modules designed specifically for the DACH (Deutschland, Austria and Switzerland) automotive zone.

For those outside of Europe, the JT file format might be a bit obscure; however, for those working in the automotive industry on the continent, JT has become the de facto standard driving Germany’s automotive supply chain.

It makes sense too.

With model-based definition (MBD) and model-based enterprise (MBE) becoming standard across a number of high-tech industries, it’s critical that vendors and larger companies have a fool-proof way of exchanging data.

To meet these demands, Elysium is introducing “CADdoctor for JT,” a module that will verify JT data against user-defined standards and company rules. According to Elysium, “CADdoctor for JT leverages [our] expertise acquired through product data quality (PDQ) activities at many major enterprises worldwide. This new addition enhances CADdoctor’s B-rep geometry PDQ to include key compliance criteria, including levels of detail configurations, attribute details, check of illegal characters and JT-specific PDQ compliance.”

In addition to its many cross-checking characteristics, CADdoctor for JT is flexible in its ability to produce reports for both human and computer consumption. If human eyes need to verify a part’s conformity, 3D PDF’s can be exported. If a computer is more apt for the job, reports in HTML or XML formats can be churned out just as easily.

However, CADdoctor for JT isn’t the only improvement that Elysium has made to its JT suite.

Keeping up with industry trends, wherever they may be popping up, Elysium has also released another new module that will support STEP AP242 BOM XML, a new data exchange standard that automotive supply chain managers are adopting rapidly.

Given the flexibility, integrity and lightweight nature of the JT format, Elysium’s move to expand its JT portfolio seems to be a wise one. As MBD and MBE continue to grow, JT’s adoption across industries might also develop hand in hand. If Elysium can claim to be the gold standard for translating JT data flawlessly, they might just be building a very profitable tool.
