Rescale Welcomes Thermal Simulation Technology to Their Cloud

Future Facilities’ 6SigmaET thermal simulation software will now be compatible with Rescale’s high performance computing (HPC) cloud platform.

This new partnership will give electrical engineers the ability to solve their computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to the pay-as-you-go HPC service.

The service will also be available to users of 6SigmaET’s sister CFD software, 6SigmaDCX.

“Given the high memory requirements and processing power needed to run an accurate thermal simulation, the move to cloud computing seems like the obvious choice for both our product and the wider CFD industry,” said Tom Gregory, product manager at Future Facilities.

Running 6SigmaET on Rescale will help to reduce solution times and the costs associated with in-house HPC options. The hardware needed to solve complex CFD simulations in house can be insurmountable for small or medium engineering operations.

“Through the new Rescale partnership we will be able to offer our customers lower investment costs, faster solve times and, ultimately, more accurate thermal simulation,” added Gregory.

By offloading these simulations to the cloud, however, 6SigmaET users can now access as much as 1400 petaflops of computing power from Rescale’s 8 million servers in over 30 datacenters. Rescale reports that this is enough computing power to solve a 300 million grid cell in one simulation.

Rescale will only charge users for the processing power they need on an on-demand model-by-model basis. The system also offers a flexible solver licensing option so that engineers can solve their 6SigmaET simulations when they need it.
