After the recent launch of the Simcenter portfolio by Siemens PLM Software, the first software release from this portfolio has now arrived—STAR-CCM+ v11.04.

It seems apt that after the recent purchase of CD-adapco by Siemens, the first release under the new Simcenter portfolio should go to the CD-adapco flagship package. This is a reassuring sign for CD-adapco customers that Siemens is committed to the continued development of STAR-CCM+ and also seems to reaffirm that the product will form a significant part of the Siemens software portfolio.

David Vaughn, VP of worldwide marketing for CD-adapco, said, “We are proud to announce STAR-CCM+ v11.04 as the first release under the Simcenter flag.”

The purpose of the Simcenter portfolio is to bring together relevant tools for simulation, physical testing and data analytics to create a digital twin of a product or process. The introduction of STAR-CCM+ into the portfolio now fills a vital and previously unoccupied CFD-shaped space in the offering.

With STAR-CCM+ v11.04 itself, there are some significant improvements to the package in this release. Particularly of interest to this author is the introduction of automatic time step control for transient simulations. I can now put away my manually entered code for maintaining an appropriate time step in my simulations—the process is built in. Automated time step control for transient simulations can be a big time-saver, ensuring that the right balance is struck between temporal accuracy and overall runtime.

“STAR-CCM+ fits within the 3D and CFD portion of the Simcenter portfolio alongside other prominent 3D simulation tools offered by Siemens PLM Software—NX Nastran, FEMAP and the newly announced product Simcenter 3D,” Vaughn continued. “This is all very exciting news and we’re looking forward to the future as part of the Simcenter portfolio for predictive engineering analytics.”

Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, senior VP of product management at CD-adapco, said, “We are excited and proud to have STAR-CCM+ now part of the Simcenter portfolio. Siemens is building a powerful suite of simulation and test solutions, which advance our mission to allow our customers to predict product performance earlier and more accurately throughout the entire product lifecycle. Our continued focus on purposeful releases, combined with the Simcenter portfolio, results in better performing and more innovative products.”
