SimScale Offers Training on Using Simulation in Biomedical Engineering

Access to free engineering software is an essential tool for engineers of all disciplines, especially students who are working hard to gain the skills they need to become successful professional engineers.

The use of engineering simulation in the biomedical field will allow more tailored and patient-specific treatments for a wide variety of medical conditions.

For example, it will be possible to design customized heart valves with the help of computational simulations, and to identify complications based on the data from a CT scan.

Increased adoption of simulation in healthcare and medicine will also enable patient-specific diagnostics and therapies including biomedical devices, cardiovascular disease treatment and evaluating the performance of artificial organs.

To make these possibilities a reality, SimScales self-named computer-aided engineering (CAE) software program is available for free, so it can be used to introduce students and professional engineers alike to new applications for simulation.

In the name of this goal, SimScale has partnered with Hannover Medical School to design three webinar training courses designed to teach biomedical engineers how to apply engineering simulation to biomechanics and medical science applications.

The SimScale Biomedical Engineering Workshop will teach how to perform fluid dynamics, structural and thermodynamics analyses using the SimScale simulation software platform.

The three training courses cover several biomedical engineering applications:

HIP JOINT PROSTHESIS – August 25th, 2016

The first session will discuss the fundamentals of biomedical engineering. Attendees will learn about the latest technological trends and how engineering simulation is being used today to improve individual diagnostics and therapy. Attendees will learn how to perform their first simulation of a biomedical device.

STENT DESIGN AND APPLICATION – September 1st, 2016

Stents are small expandable tubes used to treat narrowed or weakened arteries in the body. During the second session attendees will learn about the challenges and requirements of stent design in order to achieve maximum therapeutic success. Afterwards, attendees will evaluate the behavior of a stent by running a simulation their selves.

IN VIVO BLOOD FLOW – September 8th, 2016

In the final session, attendees will learn about the fundamentals of the cardiovascular system and how prospective technologies based on simulation will help to treat widespread diseases. Finally, attendees will learn how to evaluate the danger of vessel calcification with the aid of a fluid flow simulation.

The three one-hour webinar sessions require no prior knowledge of simulation software and all participants will get free access to SimScale with their registration to the workshop. The live online sessions will take place on Aug 25th, Sept 1st and 8th, 2016 at 5:00pm CEST.

All registrants will receive a recorded version of the workshop, even if they are unable to participate in the live sessions.

Participants will also receive a Certificate of Completion and SimScale Professional Training for submitting all three of the optional homework assignments associated with the workshop.
