Production Tech at IMTS: Tool Holders, Carbide Grades and More

There are only 18 days left until IMTS 2016 begins in Chicago.

Below are just a few products and events you can expect to see on the show floor.

SPEEDSYNCHRO TOOL HOLDER from Emuge Corp.

Among Emuge Corp.'s full range of cutting tools and workholding solutions at IMTS 2016, booth W-1536, will feature the Emuge SPEEDSYNCHRO, a unique tool holding solution.

The Emuge SPEEDSYNCHRO tool holder features an integrated transmission of 1:4.412 for optimizing thread production on CNC machines with synchronous spindles. The integrated transmission is combined with Softsynchro minimum-length compensation to efficiently work with high cutting speeds and a relatively low synchronous machine tool speed, compensating for synchronization errors during the threading process. The results are significant time and money savings, particularly in high production tapping operations.

The new tool holder offers easy programming and up to 40 percent time savings due to significantly shortened thread production cycles resulting from the combined fast acceleration and cutting speeds facilitated by the integrated transmission. The time savings substantially increases the number of tapped holes achieved in a given operation and is especially effective in high production tapping. Tool life and thread surface quality are both optimized.

Exact thread depths can be achieved with SPEEDSYNCHRO as it does not reverse the direction of rotation.

Emuge SPEEDSYNCHRO Tool Holder supports a maximum spindle speed of 2,000 RPM and a maximum tapping speed of 8,824 RPM.

Cutting range is from M1 - M8 and an ER16 tool holder size is offered.  Internal coolant capability is provided.

Duo-λock Modular Interface for Carbide Cutting Tool Heads from Haimer USA

Haimer USA will have many products and technologies on display at IMTS 2016 including its new modular interface Duo-λock for carbide cutting tool heads. Haimer is located in booth W-1452 at McCormick Place in Chicago during the September 2016 show.

HAIMER USA introduces their new modular interface Duo-λock for carbide cutting tool heads. To combat the steadily increasing cost of carbide, modular cutting systems with carbide heads have continued to gain traction in the marketplace. HAIMER has recognized the value of such modular systems and perfected the technology, creating a very stiff, precise interface. The concept of Duo-Lock provides maximum stability and stiffness based on an innovative thread with the patented double cone connection and an additional third supporting pilot at the base of the interface.

HAIMER will also be exhibiting their Safe -λock tool clamping system and Power Mill end mills. The HAIMER Safe -λock Clamping System has revolutionized the manufacturing industry by providing reliable pullout protection that withstands even the toughest materials. The Power Mill end mill series is made from K20-K40 grade fine grain carbide developed to be matched with HAIMER’s premium tool holders.

Other technologies and products figuring prominently in Haimer’s IMTS exhibit are the Power Clamp Shrink Fit Machines, HAIMER Shrink Fit tool holders and collet chucks, Tool Dynamic Balancing Machines, HAIMER 3D Sensors, and HAIMER Cool Flash coolant delivery system.

New Chip Breaker Carbide Grade from Vargus

VARGUS USA, a supplier of thread turning and thread milling solutions and hand deburring tools, launched its new line of GROOVEX tool solutions for cost-effective, high-performance grooving applications in 2011.

At IMTS Chicago 2016, VARGUS will introduce new Boring micromachining solutions in the GROOVEX Microscope family of products. The Microscope line offers solutions for micro Boring, Grooving, Chamfering and Threading in bores as small as 1.0 mm. The Microscope line offers a large and extended range of single-ended inserts and full range of toolholders with a simple and secure clamping system.

A groundbreaking new Boring Chip Breaker tool is being introduced, offering a superior solution for boring blind holes, creating helical chips and preventing tangled chips in the workpiece.

Furthermore, Microscope Boring tools will now feature a new TiAlN PVD coated VTX grade, in addition to the already available multipurpose TiCN PVD coated VBX grade. The VTX is an excellent grade for Boring applications in medium-to-high cutting speeds and dry conditions, and for preventing peeling and chipping of the tool. Grooving and Threading tools are offered in the VTX grade as semi-standards. The VTX carbide grade for Boring applications is also extended to offer a unique edge preparation for improved stability and longer tool life.

VARGUS will introduce five new Boring and Chamfering applications: Boring 20°, Boring 90°, Back Boring, Boring & Chamfering 45°, and Face Chamfering 45°, as well as a four-flats toolholder, which were first shown at EMO Milan 2015.

The GROOVEX Microscope Line offers a complete range of groundbreaking Boring, Grooving, Chamfering, and Threading solutions for any Micromachining operation.
