Telit has recently released its Rapid IoT Development Kit. The kit has connectivity to the cellular networks and Telit's cloud-based IoT portal built into its design.

Development kits, like this release from Telit, help development engineers reduce thetime and costs associated with prototyping an IoT product.

Instead of waiting for the customized chipset your team is working on, engineers can test out the product and create proof of concepts with these development kits.

Because the chip is open access, engineers can also use it to create the control systems they will eventually be using on their own custom made chipsets.

The development kit from Telit comes packaged with various sensors, including:

  • Accelerometers
  • Thermometers
  • LED indicators

The IoT development kit can operate as stand-alone hardware, or it can interface with other tools. It has the onboard processing power of the Telit xE910 module with AppZone C development and runtime environments.

The kit also has an interface mode, where it is compatible with other platforms that can expand the kit’s functionality. Some of the platforms that are compatible with the Telit kit without connecting cables include:

  • Texas Instruments (TI) LaunchPad Development Kits
  • Raspberry Pi
  • Arduino

“Telit and the TI LaunchPad Development Kits are a powerful combination for any developer looking to prototype a robust and complete IoT solution,” said Adrian Fernandez, Microcontroller Development Experience manager for TI. “Developers can simply snap a TI LaunchPad development board onto the Telit Rapid IoT Development Kit for virtually instant cellular connectivity and integration with a cloud-based IoT platform to collect, manage and analyze their data.”

IoT development engineers can control the kit through the Telit IoT Portal. From there, they can extract the data and display it on dashboards. Within the portal, engineers can also design a stand-alone web-based app and integrate it with other digital systems for big data analytics.
