MSC Apex Release Focuses on Vibration Analysis

Frequency response analysis in MSC Apex for aerospace application.

MSC Software has now released the sixth version of its MSC Apex software. The current release, named Fossa, focuses heavily on vibrational analysis.

MSC Apex is a CAE software that has both modeling and simulation capabilities. It also offers engineers computational part functionality. These computational parts obfuscate your design so that you can share it with customers and contractors for use in simulations without risking the loss of intellectual property.

NVH Comes to MSC Apex

Assessing the noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) associated with the cyclical loads on a product can take some time. Many engineers still use a trial and error process when optimizing parts for these NVH problems.

In contrast, Apex Fossa  offers engineer the ability to explore the design space as it relates to NVH. This allows for faster and more informed NVH optimizations. Engineers set up the design space exportation within the results space in Apex. This eliminates the need to go back to CAD and make the changes manually.

Within the Apex environment, engineers will be able to assess how their designs will respond with respect to NVH. Automating this process will surely speed it up, allowing for numerous scenarios to be assessed and helping to get products to market faster. MSC also notes that engineers can use the tool to discover both local and global behavior.

Modeling, Simulation and Extensibility Improvements to MSC Apex

The team at MSC has made a few more improvements to MSC Apex. Simulation engineers, for instance, will note that the computational parts functionality of Apex has been expanded into dynamics and frequency response simulations.

For modeling, the tool has seen improvements to mesh generation and geometry/mesh cleanup. Some of the improvements include:

  • New connectors
  • Local coordinate, distributed coupling, moment and dynamic force loads, and boundary conditions
  • Slicing, mirroring and Boolean operations

Finally, using Python scripts, engineers will now be able to connect MSC Apex with their other CAE tools using an application program interface (API). The new API system is compliant with Python standards and has built-in Python data structures.

MSC Apex Fossa will be available before October. To learn more, follow this link: MSC Launches Apex for Computational Parts Based CAE.
