VIDEO: How Manufacturing Execution Systems Help Analyze Factory Productivity

The only things that seems to grow faster than manufacturing are the acronyms around it: CAD, CAM, PLM, ERP, IIoT, the list goes on and on.

In the video above, we speak with Dave Edstrom, CTO of Memex, about another acronym, known as MES or Manufacturing Execution Systems.

“You need to have an ability to get information from a device—typically machine tools or operators—that can be processed and presented in different ways—using dashboards, reports or alerts—depending on what’s happening,” said Edstrom.

Memex develops hardware and software that connects machine tools and other devices, enabling manufacturers to analyze their productivity and improve upon it.

In the video above, we take a look at the advantages of going wireless with the MTC-One MTConnect connectivity board and Edstrom’s book, MTConnect: To Measure Is To Know.

Edstrom’s book takes an in-depth look into "how and why a royalty-free and open-source standard is revolutionizing the business and technology of manufacturing" and delves into how exactly manufacturers can benefit from MTConnect.
