VIDEO: How Metrology Can Make Inspection Just as Fast as Production

In automated mass production, speed is everything.

It’s always been about pounds on the ground, whether you’re stamping, forming or machining and the increased speed of equipment has put pressure on the inspection side of things – namely metrology. It’s very difficult to inspect parts that are coming off a line at blazing speed.

In the video above, we speak with Eric Nemitz, director of new business development at Automated Precision Inc. (API) about how manufacturers can advance their metrology solutions to ensure inspection keeps up with production.

“API developed the Smart Factory Inspection System (SFIS), which integrates a laser tracker that we invented 28 years ago with a robotic sequence,” Nemitz explained.

In the video above, we look at a display of FANUC robots combined with API metrology equipment, tracking six degrees of freedom with an end effector for aerospace and automotive applications, while simultaneously scanning.

“We can work integrated solutions together,” said Nemitz.

“What we’re trying to show is an integration where we’re bringing a robotic sequence into a more accurate environment.”
