As the Internet of Things (IoT) is becoming more prevalent, it's important for it to appeal to various disciplines. Industrial engineers and equipment designers, for example, need an IoT platform that focuses on industrial applications for it to be useful.

This is why they should pay attention when platforms such as the recently announced industrial IoT (IIoT) platform, Arktic, hit the market.

The IIoT platform is created by Arkados Group and focuses on scalable machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and tools for data analytics, building/machine automation, energy management, measurement and verification.

As the IIoT platform is designed for logic and data handling, the software promises to be useful to product development companies, system integrators, resellers and production facilities. Additionally, the company reports that the software is ideal for smart buildings and smart cities due to its scalability.

Arkados partnered with the Tatung Company to integrate its industrial hardware into the platform. However, third-party product integration is also possible with the platform.

“The system is unique, given its open architecture, built-in security features and ability to scale to the most demanding needs of our commercial customers,” said Terrence DeFranco, Arkados’ chief executive officer. “Moreover, the integration of Arktic with gateways from our valued partner, Tatung, allows us to respond to opportunities quickly and drive high margin revenue. The value proposition is clear: Arkados is able to deliver high-quality products that are not only easy to implement and manage, but also optimize return on investment for our customers and the company.”

With the growth of the Internet of things (IoT) and its more business and manufacturing–inclined cousin the IIoT, many platforms are being created to help engineers build, design and implement their connected systems.

What appears to set Arkados apart from the crowd of IoT platforms is its focus on the IIot, demonstrated by its partnership with industrial hardware supplier Tatung to start up the platform. As a result, the software will be sure to interest production engineers aiming to optimize their operations and design engineers that develop the equipment used in the manufacturing sector.
