Safeguarding clean drinking water requires so much more than just operating a water treatment plant. In fact, everyone’s actions have an indirect impact on the cleanliness of our water systems.
Recent environmental regulations recognize this; the Clean Water Rule, for example, was put forward by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in 2015 to introduce more rigorous protection strategies for small streams and source waters. As a way to act on this, state and local governments have launched programs to foster community involvement.
