Major US Shipbuilder Selects Aras Innovator
PLM solution provider Aras has landed a big contract with Ingalls Shipbuilding - a major supplier for the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard.
Ingalls Shipbuilding selected the Aras Innovator PLM solution to streamline and standardize processes on a single platform, and to remove the bottlenecks that occur because of numerous stand-alone systems and databases.
Ingalls will use the Aras solution to better manage models, drawings, parts, technical specifications, structural planning and planning data. The company anticipates that more than 3,000 members of its engineering and product development team will eventually use Aras.
Cloud PLM Market to Double in Value by 2021
According to a new report from Research and Markets, the value of the market for Cloud based PLM solutions is expected to grow from $18.65 billion in 2016 to $40.55 billion by 2021, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 16.80% during the forecast period.
The main growth drivers are a rising need for integrated PLM solutions, effective management of supply chains, and increasing adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) technology. The report also states that applications related to customer management are expected to have the highest growth rate during the forecast period, followed by compliance management and collaborative design and engineering.
Arena and Altium Partner Up to Create EDA-to-PLM Integration
Cloud PLM developer Arena Solutions recently announced that it will team up with Altium to create a bidirectional integration between Arena’s PLM platform and Altium’s electrical CAD solution, Altium Designer.
To accomplish this, they will leverage technology and expertise from Perception Software, which was recently acquired by Altium. More specifically, the integration will be based on a piece of software called EDAConnect, which automates data sharing between ECAD solutions and Oracle’s Agile PLM. This solution will be customized to work with Arena PLM.
The new solution that is being developed, called “EDAConnect for Altium/Arena,” contains two components: Library Sync and BOM (Bill of Materials) Publish. Library Sync provides engineers and designers with the latest item and approved manufacturer list information from Arena PLM. BOM Publish publishes the bill of materials to Arena PLM.
With this integration, Altium Designer users will enjoy a direct flow of parts metadata between Arena PLM and Altium, along with transparent BOM publishing from Altium to Arena PLM. As a result, EDAConnect should enable engineers to deliver prototypes faster and speed the time to product launch.
The press release also states that the new EDAConnect product will be sold by Altium when released.
Geberit and Stadler Move to Implement 3DEXPERIENCE Platform
Dassault Systèmes recently announced that it has added two new logos to its 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The first one is Geberit, a Switzerland-based company delivering sanitary technology.
While Dassault doesn’t specify exactly what solutions the upgrade pertains to, Geberit is a long-time Dassault customer, so it’s likely that this means both an ENOVIA PLM backbone as well as the CATIA V6 CAx solution.
If you’ve ever been to a bathroom in Europe, you have probably seen the Geberit logo. The company is a Swiss-headquartered global provider of sanitary technology and bathroom ceramics with 35 production facilities and more than 12,000 employees in 40 countries.
As part of a long-term vision to optimize business processes, Geberit decided to initiate the deployment of a worldwide innovation platform.
With the choice of Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE, Geberit will get access to integrated, digital collaborative design and engineering capabilities. The platform’s applications will enable effective design-for-cost strategies in compliance with sustainability targets and safety norms, in order to launch products faster. In this virtual environment, Geberit can test and validate designs, and program and simulate manufacturing. This helps reduce the need for physical prototypes and ensures manufacturability early in the process.
The other logo was added by TechniaTranscat. The Sweden-based reseller will deliver the entire 3DEXPERIENCE platform, including CAx solution CATIA V6 and the PDM/PLM solution ENOVIA V6, to rail vehicle manufacturer Stadler. In the press release, TechniaTranscat states that the investment will allow Stadler to continue its global expansion, while at the same time improving engineering efficiency and the ability to support unique customer requirements.
The fully implemented solution includes over 2,000 CATIA V6 and ENOVIA licenses.
