Internet of Things (IoT) companies PTC and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) recently announced a planned collaboration on HPE Edgeline Converged IoT Solutions. The collaboration will focus on industrial use cases, and will incorporate the PTC ThingWorx IoT Platform with HPE’s hardware and data services.

A New Level of IoT Maturity

In a recent blog post, HPE announced a plan to take IoT to “a new level of maturity” by introducing what it claims is the industry’s first converged system for IoT. This converged system will include “[a] robust analytics platform to deliver IoT insights and machine learning at the edge, enhanced IoT security, and new IoT services and ecosystem capabilities.”

Its new collaboration with PTC could help the company meet this lofty goal. It’s expected to result in a complete, pretested hardware and software solution for IoT customers looking to solve IoT data management problems and obtain actionable insights from sensor data. The combined solutions will be specifically designed for IoT edge computing, and will include sensors, edge compute, real-time edge analytics, machine learning and augmented reality.

The focus on edge computing probably means that the resulting solutions will heavily incorporate HPE Edgeline IoT Systems. We’re also likely to see HPE Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager to take care of network security.

“The IoT promises access to immense amounts of pent-up data, which hold great insights that enable customers to accelerate business, engineering and scientific outcomes,” said Tom Bradicich, general manager and vice president at HPE. “The HPE Edgeline Converged IoT Systems coupled with Aruba connectivity and PTC’s leading technologies are a strong combination for unleashing these data and insights for our customers.”

Working Together to Solve IoT Challenges

While I may sound like a broken record when I advocate IoT collaboration and partnerships, I do so because it’s a proven strategy for effective IoT solutions (most of the time). But don’t take my word for it—here’s what PTC CTO Andrew Timm has to say on the matter:

“Companies working together to solve industry challenges is the fastest way to accelerate IoT innovation and bring about meaningful business value,” said Timm. “Our work to date with HPE demonstrates what is possible when two leading IoT companies come together with a mutual goal of addressing some of the IoT’s foremost challenges and creating new IoT solutions.”
