To meet the challenges summoned by this big data paradigm, more powerful workstations have to be built and the hardware that underpins them has to keep advancing.
In an announcement made at Autodesk University, Lenovo has stated that it will be updating its ThinkStation line to support NVIDIA's state-of-the-art Quadro Pascal GPU architecture. The update will be applied to Lenovo’s P910, P710, P510 and P410 workstations.
With NVIDIA's new Pascal-based chips, users can expect better performance when running simulations, working with large assemblies and streaming immersive virtual- and augmented-reality experiences.
”Photorealism and virtual reality (VR) are defining the future of design. They bring with them larger, more complex datasets requiring powerful workstations built for extreme performance,” said Sandeep Gupte, senior director of professional visualization at NVIDIA. “Lenovo's VR-capable ThinkStation workstations equipped with Quadro Pascal graphics provide the most robust solution for today's design pros creating breakthrough products of tomorrow.”
Beyond their support for NVIDIA's most powerful products, the latest ThinkStations will also feature a FLEX Drive Bay that allows front access to the machine. With front access new drives can be installed without the hassle of having to open up the side the chassis.
Finally, Lenovo has also updated its Performance Tuner. With the Performance Tuner, users can portion out where the assets inside their workstation are being dedicated, lending performance boosts to specific pieces of software when they’re in use. In its newest version, Lenovo has made it easier to find, select and configure custom profiles.
