Within the civil engineering field, about 10 percent of engineers are employed in architectural engineering and related capacities. State governments account for 1.5 percent of the total industry employment and local governments accounts for 0.53 percent.
According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, civil engineering sector employment is expected to grow by 20 percent from 2012 to 2022. This is expected to be the highest job growth rate, with employers hiring up to 45,745 civil engineers through 2023.
