There is a new addition to the Altair Partner Alliance (APA) suite of software applications. Fieldscale’s Sense, a touchscreen design and simulation tool, is now available for HyperWorks users.

The simulation software company, Fieldscale, designed Sense to save touch sensor design engineers time by providing algorithms to calculate results. Fieldscale claims that its technology can simulate touchscreens up to ten times faster than any other simulation software, which could enable faster product launches with higher product margins.

“Altair is committed to continually providing cutting-edge and comprehensive solutions to assist electronics companies in creating innovative products to stay ahead of competition,” said Molly Heskitt, Altair’s senior director of business development. “Expanding our partnership with Fieldscale, we are excited to introduce Sense software in our offering, which will further empower electronics product designers to create robust solutions and shorten development cycles.”

To develop Sense, Fieldscale performed months of market research in the touchscreen design industry to discover the greatest challenges faced by simulation engineers. Sense was then created to solve the problems of touchscreen design for devices ranging from curved displays to wearables.

In Sense, it takes a very short time to set up the design thanks to parameterizations. Engineers simply choose the analysis type, the controller, the pattern and the stack-up. The parametric analysis capability saves engineers time, enabling the simultaneous testing of hundreds of finger positions in all three dimensions.

Algorithms that run in the background are optimized to deliver results with maximum accuracy in a shorter time. Results are presented in heat maps and interactive plots and can be filtered and exported. Design engineers can test new materials, new pattern designs and new technologies within Sense’s plug-and-play environment.

“Sense is the first of a long line of new generation simulation tools,” said Yiorgos Bontzios, CEO at Fieldscale. “Simplifying the simulation by hiding all expertise behind a simple intelligent app environment will enable more engineers to use simulation in their design processes. We are thrilled that Altair is our ally and together we head to the new era of simulations.”
