Altair subsidiary solidThinking has released the latest version of its Envision business intelligence (BI) analytics platform, Envision 4.0. The release brings new features and refinements that promise to make the platform an appealing choice for Internet of Things (IoT) analytics.

Here’s a look at some of the features in Envision 4.0:

  • Real-time data refresh: Your dashboards will be updated in realtime based on either a specified refresh interval or REST application program interface (API) notification. Furthermore, changes are synchronized in realtime for all users.
  • Smart joins: A new capability allows multiple data sources, such as Industrial IoT (IIoT) sensors, to be easily combined and plotted on a single chart.
  • Big data engines: Support has been added for Hadoop and Spark SQL as external engines.
  • New admin tools: Envision 4.0 offers tools that schedule data reports as well as send email notifications upon data refresh.
  • Multilevel aggregation: Standard rollup and aggregation functions can be cascaded in an aggregation path that’s determined from a chart’s aggregation levels.
  • User experience: Several features have been added to enhance the user experience, including an n-level deep Undo/Redo stack, the ability to create and share filter bookmarks, and the ability to singleselect a browsing dimension.

“The 4.0 release is feature rich across the board, making Envision more capable, refined and easy to use,” said solidThinking’s Yeshwant Mummaneni.“Users will immediately see an enhanced user experience. In addition, with version 4.0, we focused on strengthening the platform with core enhancements that include smart joins, targeted filtering and multilevel aggregations. We are really excited to deliver to our customers and partners the most comprehensive cloud BI platform yet.”

IoT data isn’t worth much if you can’t make heads or tails of it. That’s why it’s important to find an effective solution for visualizing your data. Envision 4.0 seems focused on making this experience as simple as possible, but whatever solution you choose, keep in mind that IoT data should revealactionable insights. If it doesn’t, perhaps you need to try on a new pair of data glasses.
