PTC, provider of the ThingWorx Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) platform, has announced the launch of their new Kinex family of IIoT applications, which aim to simplify and expedite the development of IIoT solutions.

The first application, Kinex Navigate, offers a simple way to access IIoT data. Kinex Navigate is a role-based application for viewing up-to-date IIoT data collected from multiple systems. Based on PTC’s Product Lifecycle Management software Windchill, Kinex Navigate gives all stakeholders in a product’s lifecycle access to the relevant product data.

PTC is also offering beta access to their Kinex manufacturing applications. These applications will offer users the ability to monitor their KEPServerEX servers in real-time, receive immediate notification when a Programmable Logic Controller goes offline, create alarms from Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control tags, and more.

Finally, the Kinex family includes Kinex Remote Service, which remotely monitors the condition and performance of IIoT assets. Kinex Remote Service offers automated initial diagnoses, customizable rules to trigger alarms, and an overview of sensor data history, all of which aim to allow proactive asset maintenance.

“Kinex role-based applications will enable customers to rapidly adopt and realize value from their digital transformation initiatives,” said PTC’s Peter Vescuso. “Kinex Navigate is seeing increased adoption in the market as companies look to leverage the Industrial IoT to improve their competitive advantage and increase the value delivered to their customers. We will deliver more new and innovative Kinex applications that support and enable Industrial IoT initiatives.”

The launch of the Kinex applications follows several recent PTC IIoT initiatives, including ThingWorx being integrated with OSIsoft’s PI System and a partnership with Deloitte on industry-specific IIoT solutions. These IIoT investments are hardly surprising, however, considering that the IIoT is predicted to have a market value of $600 billion in less than five years. With potential like that, IIoT solutions are practically begging to be developed.
