Although flipping a switch to light a room, or keeping the AC on while at work are acts that many of us do without a second thought, they come with consequences. In fact, according to recent studies electricity generation is one of the leading contributors to carbon dioxide emissions, and by 2035, electricity generation could account for at least 35 percent of CO2 emissions worldwide.

So it stands to reason that electrical engineers will play a major role in the development of technologies that can bend the curve of CO2 emissions created by electricity generation. Today, many of those technologies are already in play, but the future also holds promise for new technologies that might change the fate of our planet.
