Internet of Things (IoT) company Telit and IT services provider Freudenberg IT (FIT) have announced a partnership in the domain of Industrial IoT (IIoT) device management. The collaboration will combine Telit’s deviceWISE IIoT platform with FIT’s experience in the industrial market, and has the goal of helping manufacturers that are eager to reap the benefits of Industry 4.0 and digitize their supply chains.

The deviceWISE IIoT platform provides a library of preconfigured drivers for several communication protocols, including OPC UA and Modbus. Using the deviceWISE platform along with Telit’s cloud-based IoT Portal, FIT will be able to generate IIoT data from a variety of devices, including programmable logic controllers (PLCs) from several major vendors, and make the data immediately available to back-end systems.

The combined solution aims to make the road to Industry 4.0 easier and quicker for manufacturers. “The Telit deviceWISE IIoT platform, with its ability to connect any device to any application, together with the FIT shop floor suite, gives manufacturing companies an easy on-ramp to the IoT, which results in a very fast time to market,” said Telit’s Jens Schmolik.

An easy on-ramp to Industry 4.0 is much needed, according to a recent report from the Business Performance Innovation (BPI) Network. The report suggests that many industrial companies lack a clear strategy for embracing the IIoT, despite a common consensus about its incredible potential value. This dissonance practically demands simple IIoT solutions of the kind Telit and FIT have envisioned.

“Looking at the current digital readiness of midsize and large production companies, it is extremely important for most of them to implement truly success-oriented and holistic IoT approaches right now,” said FIT CEO Horst Reichardt. “Our new partnership with Telit is a perfect example for how to cooperate in the interest of customers. Together we make IoT success tangible."
