Two months ago, software provider Kepware released Version 6.1 of their Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity software KEPServerEX. Now, seemingly in a hurry to further improve the software, Kepware has announced the release of KEPServerEX Version 6.2.

KEPServerEX is a connectivity platform designed to integrate disparate IIoT solutions, simplifying the collection and management of industrial data. In the V6.2 release, KEPServerEX has received several improvements including updates to the CODESYS Ethernet driver, a new Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal Exporter utility and enhanced ThingWorx integration (a consistent point of KEPServerEX improvement).

Here’s a breakdown of the highlights:

  • Updated CODESYS Ethernet driver: KEPServerEX V6.2 allows users real-time data access to devices running CODESYS V3.
  • Improved Electronic Flow Measurement (EFM) Exporter: The EFM Exporter plug-in now has a Configuration API capability. According to Kepware's Jeff Bates, this will allow users with third-party applications “to remotely make RESTful calls into KEPServerEX and configure programmatic changes to the EFM Exporter.”
  • TIA Portal Exporter: Users of Siemens’ TIA Portal can use this new utility to gain immediate access to data from Siemens controllers.
  • Better ThingWorx integration: KEPServerEX V6.2 allows ThingWorx users to access their KEPServerEX data in ThingWorx Composer as well as view mapping and diagnostic data directly from ThingWorx.

The latest version of KEPServerEX clearly keeps in line with Kepware’s goal of improving IoT interoperability, while also offering new functionality for users.

"With version 6.2, we added additional device connectivity, improved the performance of important driver suites, and improved the functionality of project creation and management tools,” commented Bates. “This release directly addresses the needs of customers with growing or evolving projects that want to connect to additional devices, workcells, or lines without losing performance.”
