Dassault Systèmes Makes a Big Play in the Cloud

Dassault Systèmes, maker of SOLIDWORKS, CATIA and the 3DEXERIENCE platform, has announced that it has acquired a majority stake in enterprise cloud services company Outscale.

While Dassault was an initial investor in Outscale and has used the company’s services to manage its cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform, the move to acquire a controlling share of the firm is confirmation that Dassault is committed to expanding the 3DEXPERIENCE with even more flexible cloud support.

For its part, Outscale will provide Dassault with cloud solutions that are certified via Cisco CMSP Advanced, 100 percent Intel Cloud Technology and NetApp AltaVault. Additionally, Outscale has also developed its own operating system, TINA OS, that allows clients to automate complex cloud operations like predicting storage needs, managing data and setting up robust networks. With TINA OS driving cloud operations, 3DEXPERIENCE users will be able to deploy, manage and expand their cloud operations more easily, no matter how complex.

To ensure that its cloud services are always available, Outscale operates 10 data centers spread across North America, Europe and Asia.

“Outscale has demonstrated the success of its unique cloud architecture by offering enterprise-class cloud resources worldwide, with a data sovereignty compliance approach,” said Pascal Daloz, executive vice president of brands and corporate development at Dassault Systèmes. “Now, we can bring greater value to our customers by fully leveraging this approach to expand our ability to make the 3DEXPERIENCE platform more affordable and accessible to a greater number of users, as well as extend it to new usages.”

As Dassault continues to expand the tightly tailored industry solutions that it offers via the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, better cloud infrastructure will be key to providing useful tools for customers. With Outscale in its pocket, Dassault may have just found the provider that it needs to secure its ambitious cloud-based venture.
