Smap3D Plant Design Studio Released for Pipe Design

Smap3D Plant Design Studio is a new offering specializing in pipe design aimed at small- to medium-sized companies. Compared to other general CAD solutions, Smap3D Plant Design Studio is aimed at those who want specialized design requirements with a gentler learning curve than the traditional CAD packages, while still being able to import other formats (Step, IGES, DXF, DWG, MicroStation).

“There are a number of companies that have a CAD system with more than one functionality, but only a fraction of these functionalities are needed” Tim Frie, Sales Manager Smap3D Plant Design, said. “At the same time, however, there is no CAD solution that is particularly suited for plant design by simplifying and partly automating pipeline planning."

The package itself contains 3 main components: Smap3D P&ID, Smap3D Piping and Smap3D Isometrics, all of which function perfectly together and require no file conversions for export to each component.

The part library contains over 120,000 standard parts, meaning pipeline designs can be realized without the need for too much custom CAD modeling. But, if you do happen to require a non-standard part that is not available in the database, then the package integrates with SOLIDWORKS and Solid Edge.

The whole system is designed to streamline the pipeline design process, starting with a flow diagram, then progressing onto 3D plans and finally into an isometric scheme with each task being allocated to one of its 3 component apps.

In addition, should a user wish to add real-life components to their 3D work, they can do so with the package’s ScanTo3D function, enabling point cloud data to be imported from a 3D scanner.
