FloTHERM’s Latest Release Gets Productivity and Performance Upgrade

Siemens-owned computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software company Mentor has recently announced its latest version of FloTHERM, which in case you didn’t know is a CFD package focused entirely on thermal simulations for electronics hardware design.

The latest iteration is aimed at improving productivity and functionality, and one of the main ways that Mentor hopes to achieve this is via addition of the Command Center, which provides users extra freedom in defining base models. In addition, the software features automatic design optimization tools (because it’s 2017 and everything does now!), which can be deployed in Command Center to design aspects of the product systematically. This can reduce design time, help engineers identify pain points in their designs early on and help reduce time to market. The Command Center also makes use of T3Ster thermal characterization-based models for even more accurate thermal simulations, adding an extra layer of robustness and surety to designs.

“Our new FloTHERM product with Command Center addresses the thermal design challenges of today’s advanced products with automated features so you can be confident in making ideal design decisions for optimal product performance,” said Roland Feldhinkel, general manager of Mentor’s Mechanical Analysis Division.

In addition to Command Center, the latest edition of FloTHERM contains the following new features:

  • Support for phase change materials
  • Industry-standard ODB++ data that can now be used to bring printed circuit board designs into FloTHERM
  • Improved parallel solver
