Smoother Entries and Cleaner Exits: New BobCAD-CAM Version 30

The global manufacturing industry is ripe with excessive waste, and many manufacturing processes contribute directly to climate change. Each incremental step that moves us toward less waste and pollution is welcome, sometimes including seemingly trivial events such as software updates that improve efficiency while boosting productivity.

CNC machines are used in educational settings, job shops, hobby shops and manufacturing facilities. The CAD software powering the design of different components is becoming better linked to CAM software which tells CNC machines how to transform the 3D model of a given component into its physical form. This improvement is a good thing, but what specifically helps a piece of design, engineering and manufacturing software become better, more efficient and less wasteful?

BobCAD-CAM Version 30

Referred to as BobCAD-CAM V30, this design and engineering software generates 2.5, 3, 4 and 5 axis machine toolpaths as well as the g-code, which tells machines how to cut parts or components.Having a CAD-CAM system that draws parts quickly and has updated technology for removing material is as important as using the software to edit and make changes to 3D models.

Better User Environment

To address this concern, BobCAD-CAM engineers have changed the user environment so that selected geometry items are shown with list boxes that allow users to reverse chains, adjust the order of a selected geometry item or delete it.

BobCAD-CAM also has a toolpath editor to modify different individual parts, edit feed-rates of individual toolpaths, delete parts of toolpaths or translate them into CAD data. (Image courtesy of BobCAD-CAM.)

More Machining Features

Users can now select geometry and set the direction of cut, top of feature and the depth all in one dialog. Furthermore, individuals can make common adjustments to the cutting geometry without using a CAD tool. Hole-drilling should be more efficient by offering additional drill sorting options, which reduce cycle times.

New Multi-Depth Chamfer

Users can take any size chamfer tool and cut whatever size chamfer they want. 3 axis PRO toolpaths have been upgraded to give users additional control while optimizing entry and exit points for machining.

The global manufacturing industry is a superstructure of processes that are always being optimized, until the point that they are rendered obsolete by continuing advances in CNC machining and many, many other processes.
