Maxim Secure Authenticators

Maxim has released details about two of its turnkey technologies that protect embedded and connected systems from invasive attacks. The DS28E38 DeepCover secure authenticator (with ChipDNA technology) provides immunity to invasive physical attacks, because the cryptographic key does not exist in memory or any other static state. This physically unclonable function (PUF) circuit instead relies on the naturally occurring random analog characteristics of fundamental MOSFET devices.

In addition, the MAX32560 (running the DeepCover Security Framework) protects payment terminals and IoT devices from both local and remote attacks, even if weaknesses are exploited in the communications stack, by enabling a trusted environment on an Arm Cortex-M open platform. The software framework achieves this level of protection by separating the software architecture into protected “boxes” or containers. In addition, the framework also eliminates the need for designers to re-certify variants of their products, saving certification costs.

Microsemi QML Certification of Radiation-Tolerant Telemetry Controller IC

Microsemi has announced that its LX7730 radiation-tolerant telemetry controller integrated circuit (IC) has been successfully qualified and certified by the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) as Qualified Manufacturers List (QML) Class V and Q. The qualifications, requirements for the LX7730 to operate in space environments, are mandatory for design-ins for space programs and for manufacturers to be listed on the QML by the DLA.

As the first member of Microsemi's radiation-tolerant Space System Manager (SSM) family of special purpose mixed signal devices, launched in March 2015, the LX7730 integrates the required functions in satellite telemetry systems. These functions include a 64-channel analog multiplexer, a 12-bit analog to digital converter, break-before-make switching and a precision adjustable current source. It supports parallel or dual serial peripheral interfaces (SPIs) and also provides cold sparing.

RS Components Connectors and Cables

RS Components has increased its RS Pro range of components with additions to its connector selection. Designed to be alternatives to more expensive off-the-shelf commodity products, the RS Pro connection devices are suited to a variety of uses in general electronics, industrial, consumer and medical applications, as well as being ideal for use in harsh environments.

The RS Pro products include IP68 waterproof connectors featuring plastic shells and cable and panel mount options that are available in 13, 17 and 21mm panel cut out types. Also included are washdown M8 and M12 connectors that are sealed to IP69K and are ideal for use in the food and beverage industry. These connectors are supplied in plastic housing with stainless steel coupling nuts, and offer resistance against chemicals and oil.

Synopsys HDMI 2.1 IP with HDCP 2.2 Content Protection

Synopsys has launched its DesignWare HDMI 2.1 IP with High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) 2.2 consisting of controllers, PHYs, verification IP, IP Prototyping Kit and IP Subsystem as well as Linux software drivers. The IP supports HDMI 2.1 features like fixed-rate link allowing uncompressed 8K resolution with 60 Hz refresh rate for a more immersive viewing experience in digital TVs, AR/VR devices and computer displays.

In addition, enhanced Audio Return Channel (eARC) enables advanced audio formats such as object-based audio. Support for dynamic HDR provides higher video quality with frame-by-frame color depth, brightness and contrast. For secure data transmission across HDMI links, the IP incorporates DesignWare Embedded Security Modules compliant to the HDCP 2.2 specification.

TI LED Lighting Controller

Texas Instruments (TI) has introduced a 3-channel high-side linear automotive light-emitting diode (LED) controller without internal MOSFETs, which gives designers greater flexibility for their lighting designs. The TPS92830-Q1’s architecture allows higher power and better thermal dissipation than conventional LED controllers, and are particularly beneficial for automotive LED lighting applications that require reliability.

Conventional LED drivers integrate the MOSFET, which limits designers’ ability to customize features. With that type of driver, they must often make significant design modifications to achieve the desired system performance. The TPS92830-Q1 LED controller’s on-board features give designers the freedom to select the best MOSFET for their system requirements. With this approach, they can more quickly and efficiently optimize their lighting power designs for automotive system requirements and desired dimming features.
