Thingstream, the Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity platform that launched earlier this year, has expanded its offerings with a new online Connectivity Store. After registering for a free Thingstream account, users can access the online store to purchase a selection of Thingstream products for their IoT projects.

There are currently four products available in the Connectivity Store: the Thingstream IoT Module, the Thingstream Starter Kit, the Thingstream IoT Button and the Thingstream Global IoT Subscriber Identification Module (SIM).

Thingstream’s approach to connectivity is to use a combination of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) messaging via Global System for Mobile communication (GSM) networks. The use of GSM networks means that IoT devices can be connected from almost anywhere on the globe, while using less power than devices communicating on cellular networks.

“Our solutions are designed to enable simple IoT connectivity and address many of the common difficulties faced by manufacturers when building connected devices, such as cost, power and data vulnerability,” said Thingstream’s Neil Hamilton. “Our Starter Kit has so far been well received amongst device manufacturers across a range of sectors, and with our range of connectivity products, we hope to enable more companies to build low-power, connected devices that leverage one ubiquitous global network.”

The Starter Kit (which incorporates the IoT Module), IoT Module and IoT SIM provide everything IoT engineers need to get their devices up and running on almost any GSM network. The IoT button is simply a connected button that allows users to explore Thingstream’s connectivity platform.
