3D scanning company Polyga has officially released a new series of turnkey scanners, the HDI Compact 3D scanner series. The series offers three models: the 1-megapixel HDI C109, the 2-megapixel C210 and the high-resolution, 5-megapixel C506, each of which targets a different scanning volume. The scanning resolution ranges from 35 μm for the C109 and C210 to 12 μm for the C506.

The HDI Compact scanners are built to be both durable and portable, with an IP67-rated housing (that’s dust proof and water resistant), a solid aluminum body, and a weight under 2 kg. According to Polyga, the scanners can produce repeatable results even in harsh environments, and combined with their ruggedness, this makes them a great fit for factories.

The scanners are also painless to set up, according to the company—simply plug them in, install Polyga’s FlexScan3D software and you’re ready to start scanning, no calibration required. If you want to integrate the scanners into an existing system, the provided software development kit gives you full control over the process, allowing users to automate their 3D scanning. The HDI Compact scanners output to a variety of file formats, including PLY, OBJ, STL, ASC and FBX.

“We found there is a strong demand for a solution that has the ease of use of a consumer-grade 3D scanner but the output of a professional 3D scanning system—in terms of capturing high-resolution 3D scans at sub-micron accuracy,” said Polyga President Thomas Tong. “The HDI Compact 3D scanners cover all these bases. They are plug-and-play systems and ready to use right out of the box within minutes of setup. Install the included proprietary 3D scanning software, FlexScan3D, to your computer and you are ready for scanning.”
