One Simulation Conference to Attend in 2018—Even If It’s in Cleveland

Cleveland—home of LeBron James and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame—has given you yet another reason to visit in 2018: the country’s best-attended independent simulation conference, this year called CAASE. And, as if the planets are aligning, you might be able to see all three attractions in one trip. If the Cavaliers reach the NBA Championships, Cleveland will be very popular in early June (book your hotel now!). The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is within walking distance of the CAASE conference—and is included as a night activity on the conference agenda).

Reason enough to go to Cleveland: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, designed by I.M. Pei, is the site of an evening event during CAASE18.

The National Agency for Finite Element Methods and Standards (NAFEMS), founded in the UK, has had a US office since 2007. The American conference, rebranded as CAASE, will occur in Cleveland, Ohio from June 5-7, 2018.

Established back in 1983, NAFEMS is the only independent, not-for-profit, international organization that is dedicated to engineering simulation technology. Originally established with the singular mission of promoting the safe and reliable use of finite element and related technology, NAFEMS has grown into a global one-stop shop for all aspects of information on engineering analysis, covering topics from all aspects of engineering simulation, including single domain, multiphysics, and multiscale simulations.

Its stakeholders include simulation end users across all industry sectors who are engaged with all aspects of single domain, multiphysics, and multiscale simulations, including simulation technology providers, researchers and academia, that are engaged in this area for the development, manufacture, and life-cycle support and management of systems and subsystems.

NAFEMS is one of two independent conferences for simulations vendors. While the big players have their own user meetings, including conferences and exhibition space for their partners, NAFEMS and ASSESS are the only ones we have found that play host to many competing vendors. This is reflected in the event’s main sponsors, which this year include ANSYS, DS SIMULIA, Siemens, Altair and MSC Software.

The event will feature several keynotes from industry leaders, presentations on a wide range of simulation-based topics, various training and workshop sessions—and let’s not forget the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is included in the conference registration price.

There will be three general themes over the three-day event, with the first focused on “Driving the Design of Physical Systems, Components & Products”; the second centered on the “Implementing Simulation Governance & Democratization”; and the final day’s theme covering “Advancing Manufacturing Processes & Additive Manufacturing.”

CAASE18 will be held at the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. And, naturally, Engineering.com will be there to cover the event.
