Moldex3D Cloud Extension Gives HPC to Plastic Manufacturing Companies

Integrating a computer-aided engineering (CAE) platform can be a headache, especially for small- and medium-sized businesses that may be on a budget, either financially or in terms of manpower required for an enterprise-level software deployment.

The returns for those who do invest in a simulation platform can be significant, especially in the plastic manufacturing industry where mold making costs are significant. Better to simulate the mold first than send a flawed design for manufacture, right? A large mold can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and upwards into the millions. Best to measure twice, cut once, as they say…

Luckily, plastic simulation solution provider Moldex3D has your back with its Moldex3D Cloud Extension. Based on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Moldex3D Cloud Extension users can now make use of the cloud to outsource computationally heavy simulations without the need for purchasing additional licenses and hardware. By using AWS with the cloud-based high performance computing (HPC) platform, users can leverage the power of 16 cores to a single simulation.

Moldex3D Cloud Extension provides support for a range of special molding processes, including foam injection molding, gas-assisted injection molding and water-assisted injection molding, which enables businesses of all sizes to rapidly expand their simulation capabilities at a lower cost.

During trials of the software platform in 2017, Moldex3D rolled out the cloud extension to different companies for trials. It found that previous simulation methods took approximately two hours to run a single analysis. With Moldex3D Cloud Extension, that same company found that it could run up to five analyses simultaneously in the same amount of time, greatly shortening project lead times and enabling faster time-to-market.

And being a cloud-based solution, you don’t have to worry about installing new updates all the time, as the calculation specifications on the Cloud Extension are continuously updated.
