Verge3D, a real-time renderer for 3D web content, can now be used by Autodesk 3ds Max users. A product from software startup Soft8Soft, Verge3D allows users’ WebGL technology to create interactive 3D experiences that are viewable in a standard web browser, with no plug-ins or add-ons required.

All graphics content is created inside the modeling environment of Autodesk 3ds Max using standard or physically based rendering (PBR) materials. This content can be previewed from within the viewport or in a browser. Once finalized, the content can be exported for Verge3D in the gITF 2.0 file format.

Users can also add interactivity to their 3D content with a Scratch-like visual programming language called Puzzles, which enables both developers and designers to build 3D applications with no coding required. For more advanced Verge3D integration, web developers can make use of the open-source Three.js JavaScript library.

For a better idea of what Verge3D offers, here’s an example from the Soft8Soft website that takes users through a step-by-step guide for assembling a moving carton. Another example allows users to configure a diamond ring and see the effects in real-time.

Soft8Soft offers a free trial version of Verge3D, with the price of a commercial license starting at $290. The software is compatible with 3ds Max 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015.
