Dell, Microsoft and VMware will collaborate to create an Internet of Things (IoT) solution geared toward vertical customers and aimed at simplifying the deployment of their customers’ own IoT solutions.
Microsoft will contribute its Azure IoT Edge application, while Dell will supply its Atom Edge Gateway, and VMware will offer its Pulse IoT Center. According to the companies, this collaboration will allow for an IoT infrastructure that provides smoother management, monitoring and security from the edge to the cloud.
Specifically, Microsoft’s Azure IoT Edge application will connect cloud intelligence to edge devices, reducing the latency between the data received and the decisions made. Joining wired and wireless IoT devices, Dell’s Atom Edge Gateway will collect and analyze incoming data and report its analytics to the cloud. VMware Pulse IoT Center will oversee and monitor the gateways and connections between sensors, devices and systems, including the Microsoft Azure IoT Edge.
This joint IoT solution will appeal to developers involved with supply chain visibility, predictive maintenance and other similar projects. However, they will have to wait for its release in the latter half of 2018.
