IronCAD has released the first product update to IronCAD 2018, adding several new features and enhancements. IronCAD 2018 is marketed toward metal fabricators and custom machinery equipment manufacturers, and the new product update promises to improve the workflow for these customers.
One of the main enhancements to IronCAD 2018 is the process improvements for bulk drawing creation. Users can now simply check a box in the Properties panel to automatically include a selected part in bulk drawing creation, with the ability to specify any drawing template they choose.
The update also includes significant improvements to the ShrinkWrap utility, which strips details and lowers file sizes for easier collaboration. Now, users have more advanced options to prepare an assembly for ShrinkWrap, such as the ability to select faces to preserve, choose a shell representation, add a bounding box representation of specific parts, and more. Additionally, IronCAD now shows a process indicator and results pane at the end of the process.
IronCAD 2018 has also been updated to support new CAD formats, including Inventor (V11–V2018), SOLIDWORKS (98–2018), and Solid Edge (V18–ST10).
Several other new features aim to improve IronCAD usability. These include:
- A new handle on planar faces and sketches that enables users to quickly create new features
- The ability to define or select an extrude direction
- New keyboard shortcuts and updates to the ribbon UI
- A new tool to change connection points, even with constraints applied
