With its micro-footprint of 37 megabytes, the c-treeEDGE operates on small form factor edge devices as well as IoT and IIoT gateways. It is designed to support IoT applications operating on large systems and platforms, supposedly capable of supporting data from up to thousands of sensors. The database uses SQL and NoSQL microservices to collect and analyze data in real-time. It is also said to be compatible with most analytics tools in managing unstructured data. Other interesting features include its data portability, partitioning, coalescing, and replication.
The c-treeEDGE is reported to run on a variety of edge operating systems, such as Raspbian (Raspberry Pi), Windows IoT, Android, AndroidThings, Linux, and Windows 10. It also supports IoT communication interfaces like MQTT, REST API, Node.js, JSON Support, Python, and Java.
This release brings good news for ThingWorx users as well. FairCom also announced the upcoming launch of a c-treeEDGE IoT Database Extension for ThingWorx. “The Extension can be easily installed in order to add a ‘thing’ to the ThingWorx Composer and can be eventually installed on virtually any device in the user’s IoT environment,” Oliveira said. “The end result is efficient, powerful data management capabilities for ThingWorx users.”
Looking at the company’s family tree of products, the c-treeEDGE bears its technological roots in FairCom’s senior database, c-treeACE, a tried and tested database for many years in the medical and manufacturing industries. As the company expands its reach, the c-treeEDGE IoT database is expected to benefit other industries that also count on quick and reliable decision-making, like energy management and transportation.
