ADLINK COM Express Type 6 Module

ADLINK has introduced its COM Express Type 6 modules, featuring the Intel Xeon and 8th generation Intel Core processors (formerly code named Coffee Lake H) with up to 6 cores (Hexa) and up to 48GB memory capacity. The modules are suited for applications such as image processing and analysis, 4K high speed video encoding/streaming, medical ultra sound, and predictive traffic analysis.

The Express-CF module provides standard support for up to 48GB non-ECC DDR4 in three SO-DIMMs (two on the top side, one on the bottom), while still complying with PICMG COM.0 mechanical specifications. Modules equipped with the Xeon Hexa-core processor support both ECC and non-ECC SODIMMs.

Analog Devices Integrated Optical Module

Analog Devices has launched the ADPD188BI, an integrated optical module featuring two LEDs, photodiode and analog front-end (AFE) included together in a single package. The AFE offers high ambient light rejection and reduces power consumption to support longer battery life.

The two LEDs help reduce false alarms often caused by steam and dust. False alarms are a leading factor in detectors being removed or disabled by users. According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly one in four deaths (23 percent) in the United States occurred where smoke detectors were not working or disabled.

Cypress Smart City Systems

Cypress Semiconductor and Semtech have joined forces to create a two-chip LoRaWAN-based device deployed by Onethinx. The Onethinx module is ideal for smart city applications that integrate multiple sensors and operate in harsh radio environments. Using Cypress’ PSoC 6 microcontroller’s (MCU) hardware-based Secure Element functionality and Semtech’s LoRa devices and wireless radio frequency technology, the system provides a multi-layer security architecture that isolates trust anchors for protected device-to-cloud connectivity.

In addition, the PSoC 6 MCU’s Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) connectivity provides a low-power, out-of-band control channel. The PSoC 6 device is an Arm Cortex-M dual-core MCU with a power slope as low as 22-μA/MHz active power for the Cortex-M4 core.

Microchip Sensor Nodes

Microchip has expanded its tinyAVR MCU series (utilized in sensor nodes) with the ATtiny3217 and ATtiny3216. The pair have two Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) that enable systems to implement touch control simultaneously with other analog measurements. One ADC can be used with the Peripheral Touch Controller (PTC) for touch signal acquisition, while the second one monitors other inputs such as thermistors and pressure sensors, or both ADCs can be used for faster sampling of different types of sensors.

The dual ADC can be used for synchronous sampling of analog signals, such as voltage and current, thus improving the overall system real-time performance and accuracy. Also, the devices feature a hardware-based Event System that provides inter-peripheral communication without CPU involvement, reducing latency and ensuring faster system response.

RS Components has released the Quint Power DIN-rail power supplies. This 4th generation of Quint Power covers power ratings up to 100W, with 24V output voltage and 1.3A, 2.5A and 3.8A nominal current ratings. They are the first members of the Quint Power family below 100W to feature dynamic boost technology, which can supply up to 200 percent of nominal maximum current for up to five seconds to start loads that place high short-term initial demand.

Further features include preventive function monitoring, which warns of critical operating states before errors occur, and configurable signalling of DC OK or selectable power thresholds that let users adapt output-parameter monitoring to suit the application.
