Can DMG MORI Offer Entry-Level 5-Axis?

Five-axis machining can offer significant value for certain machining operations. Because the part and the tool have more degrees of freedom, the spindle has more access to the part than in a traditional three-axis mill. This allows for more complex geometries. In addition, a five-axis machine can also reduce setup changes, potentially doing in one operation what would take multiple setups on a three-axis machine. Add automatic tool and pallet changing functionality, and you have a machine that can deliver very high throughput and add a lot of value.

Of course, today's advanced 5 axis milling machines are expensive, starting at six figures and going as high as seven. However, entry-level customers are looking for 5-axis capability in a lower-priced package.

In this video, we spoke to DMG Mori about what the company has to offer for this market segment. When we asked which machine they would highlight for entry-level customers, DMG chose the DMU 50.
