Cypress Semiconductor has expanded its portfolio of Internet of Things (IoT) systems with the acquisition of Cirrent, a provider of software and cloud services for consumer Wi-Fi devices. Cirrent’s software and cloud services help make IoT devices easier to use, more reliable and more secure.

“Cirrent helps users bring their IoT products online quickly and keep them connected, solving two of the biggest barriers to the broader proliferation of IoT products,” said Hassane El-Khoury, Cypress’ president and CEO. “Providing valuable and differentiated software is a core part of Cypress’ strategy.”

Microsemi has released its PolarFire FPGA burst mode receiver (BMR), which enables 10G PON systems in small form factor pluggable (SFP) and 10Gb SFP (XFP) footprints.

The BMR allows users to build OLTs in reduced form factor modules while drawing low power in extreme thermal environments. Completely customizable with 10.8 nanosecond lock times in midrange FPGAs for PONs, PolarFire is a compact PON system housed in optical module-based form factors.

Renesas MCU for Motor Control Applications

Renesas Electronics has unveiled the RX66T group of microcontrollers (MCUs)—the first members of the company’s 32-bit RX MCU family based on the third-generation RXv3 CPU core. The MCUs’ CPU core technology achieves improved performance—as much as 2.5 times better than the previous RX family MCUs.

The RX66T MCUs, which address the real-time performance and enhanced stability required by inverter control, are suited for use in next-generation smart factory equipment, such as industrial motors, power conditioners and robots, as well as smart home appliances like air conditioners and washing machines.

RS Components Environmental Sensor

RS Components has introduced the Bosch Sensortec BME680 four-in-one environmental sensor and associated shuttle board, which simplifies product creation. The sensor integrates temperature, humidity, pressure and gas sensing for energy-conscious, cost-sensitive and space-constrained applications.

Measuring 3mm x 3mm x 0.93mm, the BME680 minimizes average power consumption by combining an energy-efficient active mode—called forced mode—and a low-power sleep mode that draws only 0.15µA. In forced mode, the sensor performs one cycle, taking temperature, pressure, humidity and gas measurements in sequence before automatically returning to sleep.
