BIM software creator Trimble has just launched the new PowerFab Suite for steel fabrication management, adding more complete capabilities for working with structural steel.

Trimble’s main pitch is that Tekla PowerFab automates repetitive tasks and makes information more accessible across the workflow. Users have total traceability of job and project information, a centralized database for job specifications, an advanced project scheduling function with links between tasks, and multiple schedules visible in one Gantt chart. The suite is built around Tekla EPM, which includes tools like estimating, production control and material optimization.

EPM, which Trimble acquired as “FabSuite,” has been an important addition to the brand. “Following the acquisition of FabSuite in 2018, Trimble is now able to further integrate fabrication workflows to give customers improved collaboration and connectivity,” Jari Heino, general manager of Trimble’s Structures Division, said in the company’s press release.

Apart from EPM, the suite includes sister software products EPM GO (which lets users connect to their workflow on mobile devices)and EPM Modeler (which lets users perform model-based estimation, scheduling and reports). Trimble Connect, a cloud platform that enables users to share models, drawings and documents so that all stakeholders can ensure they’re up to date, is also included with the suite.

“Now everyone involved in a project knows what’s happening at any given time, allowing us to approach projects more proactively,” said Trimble customer Ricky Horton in the company’s press release. “Tekla PowerFab is a significant leap toward more efficient workflows and improves the way we manage projects.”
