Tech advisor and software re-seller Microdesk has launched its BIMrx software, billed as a connection point between Revit and “non-Revit” software like Microsoft Excel.

Established in 1994 as an official Autodesk reseller, Microdesk has made a name for itself offering consulting services and software from companies like Bluebeam and IBM. BIMrx is the company’s first big foray into software creation.

“BIMrx is our first mass appeal product, and it is going to have a major impact on Revit users, non-users and project teams as a whole,” said Michael DeLacey, Microdesk principal and CEO. “We are excited to offer a data manipulation environment for Revit that will enhance the way project teams work inside and outside Revit.”

Among other features, BIMrx makes it easier to take data into and out of Revit. The software lets users merge model-based information, like location and design data, with information from non-BIM sources, like commissioning information and barcodes. Users can retrieve selective data from Revit models and automatically route it into a Microsoft Excel file so that non-Revit users can easily get a readout of important model data.

The link lets users use Excel formulas and tools on data inside their Revit models. While in Excel, the

Quick/Smart select feature lets them select objects based on a Revit dynamic filter so that they can make widespread changes to element data and import it directly back into the model.

“We have set ambitious goals in our fiscal year 2020 for BIMrx and expect its success will lead to rapid developments of the application and future products,” DeLacey said.

BIMrx is currently available for a two-week free trial.
